And, We Out

So, it’s been about a week since my fellow brits and I voted on whether or not to leave the EU nd I must say I am not happy with the result. who in heir right mind would think it was okay to leave the European union? I mean the conservatives who are known for only caring about the 1% were split on their opinion so you have to know it was a bad idea. Me being a nineteen year old black woman it is real easy for me to tell what is in favour of me and the life I intend to have because #BlackGirlMagic, duh.

firstly I would like to say that the British public was ill informed of what exactly the referendum was and the possible out comes of voting either way. everyone I spoke to seemed to be really unsure of what would happen if you voted either way. Personally I felt like I was going into a vote blind. if you tuned into a debate it would seem as though all the politicians were talking in gibberish using language that the everyday person couldn’t quite grasp leading them to make the wrong decision.

People thought leaving the EU would free up a whole bunch of money that could be put into the NHS and schools when really what was upper-class people feeding propaganda to the working class. That Farage guy even said (once the votes were counted)that it was just an option and there was no certainty that that is where the money will be spent. Basically once he tricked the poor people into doing what he wanted he withdrew the option of giving what he had promised.

Basically the youth and elderly were manipulated into leaving the EU by the rich as it would benefit the rich and possibly even push the gap of upper and lower class further apart. Just rich white men doing what they do best.

Pretty much since I heard the song Trap Queen my life has been taken over with everything Fetty Wap. I mean both musically and personally, if it’s about Fetty I’m like completely invested and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. But, I have to say I have a new musical fave; Tory Lanes.

He first popped onto my radar when I was watching the drop on YouTube and the host played a clip of his debut single “Say it”. he sampled a song that took me back to my early days and I was hooked from then I’ve been a fan. But this week proved to me just how incredible his music really is. his newest single is called LUV where he samples music from a Beenie Man song (which was sampled to begin with but that’s not important)and I knew it was love.

It seems a lot of Canadian artists are influenced by Caribbean music which I love being a child of Jamaican parents. Artists such as drake are really showing the influence in their new music and Tory is showing me that he is just and talented and creative.

Let it be known that I am here for Tory Lanes just as much as I am here for Fetty and RemyBoyMonty my new musical faves.

Work,work, work from home

So what’s this new trend where artist are releasing new songs about “work”. In maybe the space of a week both Rihanna and Fifth Harmony real eased new music with work in the title,  and they are both bangers.

Rihanna treated her fans to two back to back videos both different in concepts. One more kid friendly than the otherimage the first came as no surprise as it was teased on her snap chat. Looking like she had gone back to her Caribbean roots with dancing and some grinding on drake was a true to form video. But the second was a little less expected. Still dancing with drake it was set in a living room withpurple lighting  imagethe first single off fifth harmony’s new album is hopefully setting the tone for their new sound. The group is maturing as you can tell by the clothes and sexy lyrics but even the dance moves have improved image

collabing with ty dolla sign was a big thumbs up and shows their musical transition. I have to admit I’m exited. image

For the most part it seems like the lack of diversity and representation only occurs in America but that is untrue. Here in England we have the same issue. The Brits happened a few days ago and whilst the performances we quite good. Slay bad gyal ri, yass Adele, kill it beibs. But I couldn’t help but notice that all the nominees had white face. With the exception on 1/2 of little mix I don’t think there were people of colour in the running. With UK grime artists krept and konan speaking up about it I wonder if next year will be any different. At least the oscars are here tonight. Let’s hope Leo finally wins and Chris Rock lets the academy know how important represent truest is.

King Kendrick

So the Grammy’s happened and once again I am late to talk about it, mostly because it was kinda boring. Taylor Swift opened and to be frank I was bored by her. I mean she had a hair cut which was real cute and her outfit was nice but… I’m just not a fan. When it comes to Taylor I can take her or leave her, 9 times out of 10 I’d leave her

The best part of the show was that King Kendrick performed. Not one to conform to what is “socially acceptable” he performed a medley of thought provoking songs from his album “to pimp a butterfly” which incorporated him in chains representative of black male  incarsoration followed by dancers in traditional African clothing. Needless to say he made all the while people in the audience feel very uncomfortable 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. What made me most happy is he took home the most awards of the night after being nominated for the most.

With the nominees for the oscars being announced a few weeks ago (yes girl I know I’m late) a lot of celebrities took to social media calling the the academy and Hollywood in general racist. This year, not for the first time either no actor of colour was nominated for an academy award. Jada Pinkett Smith said they should be boycotted by all celebs of colour to make a statement that we are not here to amuse and hand out awards but we too are deserving. Later on aunt viv from the fresh prince put out a statement saying the only reason Jada is mad is because will wasn’t nominated and we as actors of colour should still attend.  Both women have valid points as they are both calling for a change because representation does matter. Other celebs and people of colour came forward with opinions some valid and some like Stacey Dash who made stupid offensive remarks for the hell of it also spoke up. She said the BET awards and station should be taken off TV to increase diversity. She who benifited from the network is now against it when in actuality the station is there to show positive representation for the black community. So are the oscars racist? Is Stacy dash stupid? Who was right Jada or Aunt Viv?

She’s a fashion killer

So the golden globes have come and gone but to be honest I don’t know what it’s about and I’ve never watched. Thanks to tumblr I am however up to speed of what everyone important was wearing that evening, I figure I have a right to throw my two cent in the mix. Now I’m no fashion expert and I don’t know the names of many designers I do know what I like and what is attractive to me and apparently so do the celebrities. I mean from what I saw they could do no wrong so I picked a couple of my faves and here they are

And yes all those looks were fire but there is one that I cannot get out of my head. I don’t know how appropriate the look is for the even but to me it was perfection. The winner is Kylie Jenner. This dress made her look like a princessimage
